Apple finally did it. They finally joined the rest of humanity- er, the rest of the world. What am I talking about? While every phone manufacturer has had its own foldable smartphone for years, Apple finally folded and joined the foldable market with the iPhone Duo.
After years of rumors and leaks, the first foldable iPhone is real. Apple wants theirs to be the phone that fits in your pocket but works like a tablet when you need it. Here’s what you need to know about Apple’s newest flagship, how the folding screen works, and why it matters.
A Foldable Smartphone That Tries to Do It All
The iPhone Duo folds like a pocket book, featuring a compact 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display for easy one-handed use and a large 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR screen when unfolded, making it the thinnest iPhone yet. Both screens share the same aspect ratio, so apps and multitasking are consistent whether open or closed. That’s pretty neat. Also, from the videos I’ve seen on my social media feeds, the screen size is pretty big. I love that.
The inner screen has a special anti-glare finish to minimize the crease, and both displays are exceptionally bright, support ProMotion up to 120Hz, and include Always-On technology. Apple Pencil support is also coming soon, letting users take full advantage of the big screen for digital note-taking. We also like this since I like taking notes. A wider screen feels much more natural to write on.
Another great thing they did? You can barely see any fold on the screen. Like wow.
Precision Engineering & Titanium Durability
So what about the hinge? Apple has prioritized durability in the iPhone Duo with a polished Grade 5 titanium frame, a 3D-printed hinge cover, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front for enhanced scratch resistance, and regular Ceramic Shield on the back. The hinge has over 100 parts, including magnets and carbon fiber, to keep the screen flat and let inner layers flex, minimizing wear over time. The device is also fully IP68 rated for water and dust resistance. But here’s hoping that we don’t get any news that the hinge will wear out after a few months of regular use/abuse.
A20 Pro Silicon and Pro Camera Hardware
The iPhone Duo features Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, a special cooling system, and dual batteries for all-day power. Its dual-lens rear camera system includes hidden sensors, a 48MP main camera (defaulting to 24MP photos with a 2x crop mode and no shutter lag), and a 48MP ultra-wide lens for macro shots. The selfie camera is hidden under the inner screen and appears only when needed. Convenience features include side Touch ID and a Camera Control button for quick access to Siri’s AI vision tools.

You can get the iPhone Duo in Star White or Night Sky. But what about the price? Well, hold onto your wallets because this one could potentially break the bank.

For us regular mortals, we can still have it, as long as you don’t buy necessities or shop on Shopee or Lazada, eat cup noodles, and drink water from the office water dispenser for the next six months or so (maybe longer). Or pray to Santa, Cthulhu, the heathen gods of old, or forgotten Dungeons & Dragons deities and demigods.
Or forgo buying that new car if you really want the prestige and bragging rights of owning one.
