Gamescom 2026 is still ongoing, and we got to see world premieres, cinematic trailers, and some long-awaited endings to fan-favorite franchises. There were remasters, new expansions, and even some fresh co-op games from studios we all know and love. If you’re into dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic survival, or massive action RPGs, this year’s show had something for you. Here are our picks for the five biggest new game reveals from the show floor.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Square Enix has finally pulled back the curtain on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, confirming it as the last stop on the Remake trilogy train, with a spring 2027 arrival. Director Naoki Hamaguchi showed off a gameplay trailer packed with giant Weapons stomping onto the scene. In other words, think kaiju-sized guardians with a serious grudge. Players will be taking on these behemoths everywhere from the skies to the deep blue, with mid-air dogfights and underwater showdowns on the menu. Exploration is getting a serious upgrade too: Cloud and crew can now parachute, swing around with grappling hooks, and, of course, ride Chocobos like it’s nobody’s business. The new “FITS” system lets you dress up your party in class-based outfits, channeling those classic Final Fantasy job vibes.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered & Songs of the Past
This is one of the most unexpected new game reveals at Gamescom. CD Projekt Red dropped a double whammy for Witcher fans. First up, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is getting a full visual and technical glow-up, landing September 29, 2026. If you already own the game, the upgrade is free. But wait, there’s more: a surprise teaser for Songs of the Past, a fresh expansion coming in 2027, with Geralt dusting off his swords for a brand-new quest. As a bonus, both of the game’s earlier major expansions are now free to download, so there’s never been a better time to toss a coin to your backlog.
Nodusfall
HoYoverse, the folks behind Genshin Impact and other time-devouring hits, just pulled the wraps off their next big thing: Nodusfall. This one’s a co-op action game, marking a clear shift into multiplayer territory for the studio. The reveal trailer served up a feast of flashy fantasy visuals and speedy combat, and fans are already lining up for another dose of that signature HoYoverse character action, this time with a co-op twist. This is one of the best new game reveals of 2026.
Gears of War: E-Day
Microsoft is taking Gears of War back to where it all began, dropping a cinematic story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day. The trailer gave us a first glimpse at the big bad behind this much-hyped prequel. By zeroing in on Emergence Day, the game ditches the high-tech gadgets of later games and goes full survival horror, putting players right in the middle of humanity’s first, brutal showdown with the Locust Horde.
Metro 2039
Metro 2039 is on track for a February 2027 release, keeping the series’ moody shooter vibes alive. The new “Renegade” trailer introduces us to The Stranger, a fresh face who’ll be crawling through the kind of tight, claustrophobic tunnels that made the original games so tense. No more wide-open spaces like Metro Exodus. There’s also a hint of psychological horror this time, with gameplay moments where your character gets hit by a mysterious, shadowy force. Bring a flashlight and maybe a stress ball.
If you thought 2027 was going to be a quiet year, think again. The announcements out of Gamescom have set the stage for a blockbuster bonanza, with legendary RPGs wrapping up, shooters getting gritty reboots, and new co-op adventures muscling in.
