GoPro is finally jumping into the world of interchangeable-lens cameras. The new MISSION 1 PRO ILS is here, and it’s tiny, tough, and shoots in 8K. It’s the latest in the MISSION 1 Series, and it’s all about mixing GoPro’s famous durability with the creative freedom you get from Micro Four Thirds lenses. If you’ve ever wanted pro-level flexibility in a camera that can take a beating, this is it. It’s the cinematic action camera we all want.
Don’t let the size fool you. Inside the MISSION 1 PRO ILS is a 50MP 1-inch sensor and GoPro’s new GP3 processor. The whole thing weighs just 197 grams, so you can fit it where bigger cameras just won’t (think car interiors or FPV drones). You don’t need a ton of extra gear to get pro-level 8K footage. GoPro says it’s the smallest and toughest cinema camera out there, and it’s way more affordable than the usual heavyweights.
The big deal here is the Micro Four Thirds lens mount. You can use all sorts of manual MFT lenses, from fisheyes to macro. GoPro even teamed up with Venus Optics Laowa to show off what’s possible. With adapters, you can slap on vintage lenses or even PL-mount cinema glass. That means you get creative options like shallow depth of field and smooth focus pulls. This is the kind of stuff you just couldn’t do on a GoPro before.
Video specs are just as wild. You get 8K at 60fps and 4K at a crazy 240fps(frames per second). If you want more room to crop or reframe in editing, Open Gate mode gives you up to 8K30 and 4K120, using the whole sensor. If you want 4K or 8K at high FPS, then this is the cinematic action camera for you.
GoPro didn’t cut corners on pro features. You get 10-bit color, GP-Log2, HLG HDR, and bitrates up to 240Mbps. There’s Timecode Sync for multi-cam shoots. For audio, you get four mics and 32-bit float recording to a separate .wav file, so your sound stays clean and doesn’t clip.
You still get GoPro’s Emmy-winning HyperSmooth stabilization, even with third-party lenses. The built-in stabilization works with both rectilinear and fisheye lenses, so you get gimbal-like smoothness without lugging around extra gear. The new 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery keeps it all running for over three hours of nonstop 4K30 recording.
GoPro’s cinematic action camera is also rolling out the free MISSION Monitor app for iOS. It turns your iPhone or iPad into a pro wireless monitor, with focus peaking, zebra stripes, and real-time LUT previews. You can actually see what you’re shooting and trust your setup.
You can pre-order the GoPro MISSION 1 PRO ILS now for $699.99, or $599.99 if you’re already a GoPro subscriber. Shipping starts next week, and it’ll hit stores worldwide in September 2026.
