Portable gaming PCs are everywhere these days, with most brands just tweaking screen sizes or making them a bit comfier to hold. Some even let you watch in 3D. Acer, though, decided to toss out the usual playbook. At IFA 2026, right next to the new Predator Atlas 7, they showed off the Predator Project DualPlay Mini, a 2-in-1 gaming portable (gadget?) that tries to mash up handheld gaming and laptop-style work in one surprisingly compact package.
Acer is calling this a first for the category. The Project DualPlay Mini packs an 8-inch screen and a flip-and-swivel trick that’s more than just a party trick. Closed up, it’s your classic high-end handheld: thumbsticks, D-pad, triggers, the works. Basically, it’s ready for a marathon RPG session or some old-school platforming from the comfort of your couch.
But here’s where things get interesting: flip the screen open and suddenly you’ve got a backlit physical keyboard hiding underneath. Just like that, your gaming handheld turns into a pint-sized netbook, ready for work or whatever else you want to throw at it (hopefully not a kitchen sink because that would wreck it completely).
Best of Both Worlds: Work and Play
The keyboard isn’t just there so you can answer emails while pretending to work. Acer says it’s a productivity booster, but it’s also a nod to gamers who think thumbsticks just don’t cut it for every genre.
Pop the device open, add a Bluetooth mouse, and you’ve got yourself a classic keyboard-and-mouse setup. That’s a big win for anyone who takes their FPS or MOBA games seriously and needs every last bit of precision. And if the 8-inch screen feels more ‘Game Boy’ than ‘workstation,’ you can always plug it into a bigger monitor and turn this little guy into a mini desktop.
Under the Hood: Intel Power and Advanced Cooling
Acer’s keeping the exact processor a secret for now, but they did say it’s running on Intel. Odds are, it’s something similar to the Intel Arc G3 chips found in the new Predator Atlas lineup.
Keeping a tiny hybrid like this cool isn’t easy, but Acer’s bringing out its signature cooling tech. The DualPlay Mini uses two fans: one regular plastic fan, and one of Acer’s custom Predator AeroBlade metal fans. Acer claims these ultra-thin blades, plus its Vortex Flow cooling, boost airflow by up to 10% over your average plastic fan. Translation: your frame rates should stay steady, even when you’re crunching spreadsheets or sweating through a boss fight or those long, graphics-heavy gaming sessions.
A Glimpse into the Gaming Portable Future
And for the Easter egg hunters out there, Acer hid a little nod to its 50th birthday on the back panel: ‘Acer 50 since 1976’ in Morse code. Because why not?
Right now, the Project DualPlay Mini is just a proof of concept. No word yet on when (or if) it’ll actually go on sale, how much it’ll cost, or what the final specs will look like. Still, as handheld gaming PCs keep getting weirder and wilder, the DualPlay Mini shows there’s plenty of room for creative ideas. Whether this exact 2-in-1 ever hits stores or just inspires the next wave of Predator gadgets, it’s a fun peek at what the future of portable gaming could look like.
