SOND Dreambuds will help you sleep better

We all need to sleep. But sometimes sleep doesn’t come easily to many people (us included).  Since we’re sleep deprived, we’re on the lookout for systems and devices to help us sleep better. We saw the SOND Dreambuds on Kickstarter, and we think it’s got potential.

SOND Dreambuds on Kickstarter is a new in-ear wearable built by MIT engineers and former Bose sleep tech leaders. Unlike typical smart earplugs that just track your sleep, Dreambuds aim to actively help you sleep better, offering an all-in-one sleep coaching system.

Real-Time Biometric Sensing

Dreambuds use in-ear sensors to track 12 different body signals, including heart rate, breathing, movement, sleep stages, body temperature, and heart rate variability. They also feature a special sensor that captures the tiny vibrations of your heart as you sleep, giving you real-time sleep and heart data with a level of detail that wrist wearables can’t match.

Active Intervention and Phone-Free Operation

Rather than just showing you sleep stats in the morning, Dreambuds uses an AI sleep coach that reacts in real time to your needs. If your partner starts snoring (which happens to many couples), the built-in Snore-Shield detects it and masks the noise. If you wake up in the middle of the night or drift into lighter sleep, Dreambuds can play calming sounds, guide your breathing, or tell a sleep story to help you get back to deep rest.

One standout feature we think you might be interested in is that Dreambuds work without needing your phone nearby. With your mobile phone out of the way or away from the bed, you can avoid late-night screen time. The earbuds communicate with a smart bedside charging station via low-energy signals rather than constant streaming. The station handles cloud processing, touch controls, and AI features over Wi-Fi, so you can leave your phone in another room (if you really hate it or love it too much).

Ergonomics, Hardware, and Daily Utility

Dreambuds are built for all-night comfort, even if you sleep on your side. Each earbud weighs just 3.3 grams and features a special Tranquilock fit system with nine combinations of medical-grade silicone tips and loops to prevent pressure points. The battery lasts up to 12 hours, so you’re covered for a full night’s sleep even if you sleep for 12 hours straight. Which isn’t really good for you if you do it every day. Take it from someone who went through it.

During the day, Dreambuds double as high-quality earbuds. They offer active noise cancellation up to 30 dB, wide-range audio drivers, and built-in microphones for calls. Sleep Aid and earbuds for music and calls. Nice.

So how much does it cost? A whopping $449.  It’s expensive, but if you want a device that could help you sleep better for more than a few decades (we hope), it’ll be worth it. Just don’t drop it. Or crush it when you’re sleeping. Because that happens more frequently.
