We got some tech & finance news this week. You can now use the same mobile number on both your iPhone and cellular Apple Watch. ShopeeFood will launch this month, and the Metrobank App gets more security features. Check out the rest of the stories below.
Smart Device Link Brings Cellular Freedom to Apple Watch
Smart just rolled out Smart Device Link, and if you’ve been waiting to use your Apple Watch without being tied to your iPhone, this is the update you’ve been looking for. Now, you can use the same mobile number on both your iPhone and your cellular Apple Watch.
If you’re deep into the Apple ecosystem, this is a big deal. You can finally leave your iPhone at home and still call, text, stream music, and get notifications straight from your wrist. Just set it up in the Smart App and your Apple Watch becomes a true standalone device. This is perfect for anyone who wants to stay connected while running, working out, or just not wanting to lug around another gadget.

ShopeeFood Heats Up the Local Delivery Wars
The food delivery scene is about to get a shake-up. ShopeeFood is finally launching in the Philippines on September 16, and Metro Manila is ground zero for this new delivery war.
No need to download another app. ShopeeFood lives right inside the main Shopee app, so ordering food is as easy as adding to your cart. If you’ve used Shopee in Vietnam, you’ll know the drill: you can earn and spend Shopee Coins on your meals, too.
Expect ShopeeFood to come out swinging with big launch promos. There’ll be free delivery vouchers and an extra 8% off if you pay with Visa or Mastercard. They’re clearly aiming to grab users from GrabFood and foodpanda right from the start. Check your Shopee app today.

Metrobank Rolls Out 4 New Anti-Fraud App Features
As scams get smarter (and worse) every day, financial institutions are doubling down on security measures. Metrobank could be doing more. The bank just added four major security features to its app, all in line with the new Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act.
- 24-Hour Cooling-Off Period: If you change your password or add a new device, your account gets a 24-hour freeze on outgoing transactions. This gives you time to catch and report anything fishy before your money goes anywhere.
- Money Lock: You can now lock part or all of your savings with a tap. Locked funds can’t be moved or used for anything until you unlock them yourself.
- Geolocation Checks: The app now checks whether transactions come from your usual device and location. If something looks off, it gets flagged for extra security.
- Payee Verification: Before you send money, the app now shows a masked version of the recipient’s name. This helps ensure your cash goes to the right person, not a scammer.

Update your Metrobank app from the App Store or Google Play to get these new security features. Get more information here.
