Apple has long kept macOS and iPadOS separate, with no sign of a native touchscreen MacBook. Now, a hardware startup is stepping in. The Intricuit Magic Screen, a touchscreen add-on first shown at CES 2026, is now on Kickstarter. It aims to add touch capability to recent MacBook Air and Pro models.
The Kickstarter campaign runs through August 9. Since its June 30 launch, it has already surpassed its HK$78,424 (about $10,000 USD) goal. The project has raised over HK$1.7 million (nearly $220,000 USD) from more than 1,200 backers.
How the Magic Screen Works
The Intricuit Magic Screen is a clear, thin panel that magnetically attaches to the display of Apple’s M-series laptops. It connects with a single USB-C cable, which handles both power and touch data to the macOS interface.
Once connected, users can control their Mac with gestures like taps, swipes, and pinches. The Magic Screen also includes a stylus with pressure sensitivity and hover recognition, targeting digital artists and designers who might otherwise use a drawing tablet or iPad with Sidecar. Intricuit says the accessory can run for up to 100 hours on a single charge.

The Magic Screen is built for Apple Silicon laptops. It supports the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air. Since the panel attaches to the screen bezel, buyers need to choose the right size for their model. The early-bird price on Kickstarter is $141. The package includes the snap-on screen, stylus, USB-C cable, folio case, and polishing cloth.
Bridging the Hardware Gap
The Magic Screen is a third-party workaround, not a native Apple solution. Since it adds an extra layer to the display, the laptop cannot close fully while the screen is attached. It works best as a workstation add-on. Still, the strong crowdfunding response shows there is real demand for touch on macOS, and users are open to new hardware to get it.
