The computer mouse hasn’t changed much in decades. But the iterations are already varied. You have your optical mice, trackballs, ergonomic mouse, and thumb mouse. Then there are those air mice. But most are still plastic shells you grip and slide across a desk, which can strain your wrist during long sessions. NextAxis Design, a UK startup, wants to change that with OVO, a new balance-based input device now on Kickstarter. OVO’s idea is straightforward: instead of forcing your hand to fit the mouse, let your natural movements control the cursor.
OVO doesn’t look like any mouse you’ve seen before. It’s a small, glowing egg that fits right in your palm, weighing just 98 grams at 48 by 61 millimeters. Designed to rest comfortably within the palm of the hand, it completely eliminates the traditional “slide-and-click” mechanism. Instead, OVO uses an ESP32-S3 dual-core processor, a 3-axis accelerometer, and a 3-axis magnetometer to track how you tilt, rotate, or balance it, turning those movements into precise cursor control.

Since OVO uses internal sensors instead of tracking a surface, you can use it as an air mouse. That means you’re not stuck at your desk. You can control your computer while standing up for a presentation or relaxing on the couch. Tapping the top of the egg works like a regular click, and swiping the bottom lets you scroll smoothly.

OVO is also built for customization. With its companion app, you can set up your own gestures and shortcuts—like rotating the egg to zoom in or change the volume. It works across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, and connects via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi without extra drivers. The 400 mAh battery lasts up to 80 hours and charges wirelessly.
NextAxis Design says OVO isn’t meant to replace your gaming mouse, but it’s a great companion for developers, engineers, and creatives who use tools like Photoshop or AutoCAD and want a fresh way to work. The Kickstarter campaign has already raised over $70,000, showing that plenty of people are ready for a more natural way to navigate their screens.
