Tesla is leveraging billions of miles of real-world, anonymized driving data to advance its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology. The system is engineered to manage the most challenging aspects of daily driving, aiming to enhance safety for both Tesla drivers and others on the road. Once activated, the feature will steer your vehicle to most destinations with minimal input, but still requires active human supervision.
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is now available in the United States, Canada, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to expand to additional markets through future software updates.
Some countries prohibit hands-off usage of FSD (Supervised), making it essential for users to adhere to local regulations.
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) executes driving maneuvers such as navigation, steering, lane changes, and parking while requiring the driver’s ongoing supervision. The system is designed for daily commutes, errands, and longer journeys. At present, all features demand the user’s attention and do not render the vehicle fully autonomous.

Tesla’s on-board cameras provide 360-degree visibility, monitoring blind spots and facilitating lane changes while maintaining speed and avoiding obstacles such as bicycles, motorcycles, and other vehicles.
The vehicle can automatically identify and maneuver into both perpendicular and parallel parking spaces, reducing the stress of parking in tight spots.
Training on Rare and Complex Driving Scenarios
Traffic incidents are inherently complex, but Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has been trained using data that represents over a century of real-world driving, collected from a fleet exceeding six million vehicles. Tesla claims the fleet experiences a lifetime’s worth of driving scenarios every ten minutes, enabling continuous improvement.
Unlike human drivers, cameras do not suffer from fatigue or distractions. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system assists with routine and error-prone driving tasks. The vehicles are equipped with exterior cameras for comprehensive visibility, and safety features are driven by the same underlying technology as the FSD suite. Over-the-air updates regularly deliver new safety enhancements to Tesla owners.
Tesla reports that FSD (Supervised) has been put through extensive real-world testing, amassing nearly 6.8 billion miles. According to company data, the system operates with a safety record seven times higher than that of human drivers when engaged.
Looking ahead, Tesla plans to introduce Full Self-Driving (Unsupervised), which could enable true autonomous driving. This technology is expected to pave the way for a fleet of robotaxis and the launch of the Cybercab service.
